A Question For Atheists--friendly-like :)
I preface this question with a caveat that I like Atheists. I do. Now, where do you guys/gals see your current cognizance/awareness going when your brain becomes unable to sustain its function?

Unawareness? I might be loosing brain functions right now, because the past few days, I have read questions, and for some reason, am not comprehending what is being asked, and it seems I am having this problem here. I am assuming that you are asking what happens when you die, to your awareness. My belief, is that is simply stops. However, I get this odd feeling that I have misread or misunderstood the question. I am feeling r e a l l y sssssllllllllloooooowwwwww right now.

If everyone was thinking the same thing, then no one would be thinking at all.

"your awareness". Can you define that? I am asking from a neuro-biological stance, FYI.

It ends.

That is my response also.

Along with the irresistible urge to say 'some of my best friends are physically challenged visible minority lovers of their own sex' but I'm just cool that way.

I've made this analogy before, so forgive me for repeating myself, but the answer to your question can be found in the answer to the following question: "Where does the flame go when the candle goes out?"

The answer is nowhere. It simply ceases to exist.

The mind/cognizance/awareness is simply the product of a normally functioning brain. Nothing more mysterious than that (though admittedly enormously complicated). But when the brain stops functioning, the mind/cognizance/awareness ends.

Seems pretty obvious to me.
Hey! I just noticed Geoffrey Taucer's sig line.

Thanks to everyone for answering my question! There's still time for people to answer! Theists?

Ive been dead billions of years before I was born, it didn't bother me then so it probably wouldn't bother my when I'm dead again.

Hello,

As you invited also theists I want to comment also in a short way. My view is that my brain and I are not identical, but rather two different entities. So that if my brain stops functioning I will be still be around and possibly have some kind of awareness.

How would you know? Without the brain to process information?

If everyone was thinking the same thing, then no one would be thinking at all.
