Seeking HGA
(A Bhaktic Hymn)
by Frater non sum

If my life were but a second I would spend it thirsting for Thee.
A love that wants nothing
And gives up all.
Unconditional devotion without fear or expectation.
Love for the sake of loving.

As a drowning man dreams of air as he touches the bottom of the sea,
So do I long; my love unto Thee.
Not the rising of the sun or its descent into night,
Nor the waxing of the moon until it casts its greatest light,
Nor the birth of the body or the soul when set free
Could ever match my great love for Thee.

My life is but an ephemeral blade of grass
That survives not but for that hallow tryst;
The mountains and the rivers would in time fade away
Before the rapture is lost of but one single kiss.

Thy august wings they would carry me
Behind and beyond the world that we see,
Toward the Fount to which our spirits must soar,
Ever for more. My God, I adore.

I that once lived in a palace made of stone,
For whom the earthly treasures most brilliantly shone,
Have now seen the Light beyond life's distress
And yearn now only for Thy holy caress.

My God who is ageless and formless and void,
How I long to dwell in Thy being so joy'd.
Thy pleasure and ecstasy is but the blinking of an eye
Unto Thee, Adonai. My beloved, Adonai!
As the oyster does create from coarse sand a lovely pearl:
Will Thou makest unto me, Adonai, my world.

These words can not come close to my true love for Thee,
O pearl of the formative sea,
Thy love set me free!
Your light guide the way to the crown atop the tree,
Thy love set me free!
Yea, Thy love set me free.
Love is the law, love under will.

Toward the Source from which our spirits do pour,
Ever to more. My God I adore!

I that once “lived” in a house made of stone,
For whom the earthly treasures most brilliantly shone,
Do now seek the Light beyond senses and flesh
And yearn now only for Thy holy caress.

My God who is Nameless and Formless and Void,
How I long to be dissolved in Thy Being so joy'd.
The pleasures of mortal tenure are but the blinking of an eye
Unto Thee, Adonai. My beloved Adonai!
As the oyster does create from coarse sand a lovely pearl:
Willst Thou do unto me, my Lord, to my world.

These words can not come close to my true love for Thee.
O Thou Fountain Eternal gushing pure ecstasy,
Thy love set me free!
Your Light e’er shines from the crown atop the tree,
And thy love set me free!
Yea, Thy love set me free.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Love is the law, love under will.
There is no law beyond Do what thou wilt.
