Star of David
An atheist group is agitating for the removal of the Star of David from a Holocaust memorial. Huh? Is this an attempt at rewriting history?

What are your thoughts on removing all religious symbols, from all public places?

RE: Star of David
Is it a memorial just for Jewish victims of the holocaust, or all victims of the holocaust? If a memorial for all groups, does each group have equal symbolic representation?

Ha... you are right!
Something interesting about that group of atheists is they don't seem to mind Islam...they target Christianity and Judaism

RE: Star of David
The Magen David isn't just a religious symbol it is a Jewish symbol look at the Israel's flag. These people complaining must have nothing better to do. 78% of the European Jewish population was murdered in the holocaust and the Magen David represents those people. The article mentions gays and JW's which deserve remembrance in this tragedy yet they represent less then .01% of the deaths.

RE: Star of David
What happened during WW2 was horrible and no goup of people should have to suffer such a fate.

The Star should stay.

RE: Star of David
The FFRF said something about separation of church and state being the thing preventing America from experiencing a "similar Holocaust on our shores".

I don't disagree, but does separation of church and state really mean that museums should be forced to remove Stars of David?

Does separation of church and state mean "Establish Secular Humanism everywhere" or does it mean "Do not put up a religion in charge of the government"? Hm.

RE: Star of David
Here in Seattle we had a orthodox Rabbi that raised a stink about Christmas trees and displaying a Nativity scene at Seatac airport he started a protest saying the Magen David and Menorah should also be allowed instead it backfired and nothing is allowed anymore, Who does not enjoy and miss seeing trees all lite up and manger scenes ? Just Egotistic silliness not to allow something that brings so much Joy to others
The star of David is about a Jews pnimiyut and chitzoniyut connections with Hashem, it is in every Jew chesed, gevurah , tiferet , netzach, hod , yesod and malchut . it is not necessary to display it in a secular government setting or anywhere else really as it lives in a Jew
If a Jew has to depend on a symbol to remind him of this then he has far more problems than worrying about what should or should not be displayed, its all narrischkeit

That comment could apply to any number of areas in our lives not just what should and shouldn't be displayed some where.

RE: Star of David
Bah, this whole thing is total YnVsbHNoaXQ=, becuase the star of David is not just a religous symbol it is a symbol of the Jewish people. However I think that if it is a general Holocaust memorial there need to be symbols of the non-Jewish Polish (3M), Ukrainian (6M), Russian (5M), and Yugoslavian (1.5M) people who were also major victims. In total there were at least 16 million non-Jewish victims.
