Teaching Islam, help needed!
Hi there,

My name is Annette, I am a student in my final year of study to become a high school teacher. My teaching areas are English and Religious Studies. For an assignment I need to complete, I need to compare two major world religions using some of Ninian Smart's dimensions. In order to compare these, I need to interview a member of the Islamic faith.

Would someone be able to assist me in this? It doesn't need to be anything formal, just a couple of lines about your opinion on the subject.

Thank you!

Narrative or Mythic Dimension

1. Is the story of Muhammed taught explicitly in Islamic schools? Or is it up to the family to teach their children the story of Islam?
2. Why do you believe the story of Muhammed is essential to the Islamic faith?
3. What is the function of this story to students of Islam?
4. Is belief in God strengthened by the historical story of Muhammed?

Social and Institutional Dimension

1. How important are ‘people’ to the Islamic faith? How important is the social aspect of Islam?
2. In a Study of Religion setting, do you think it is important to educate students with a secular background on Islam in general, or do you think that it is necessary to explain different Islamic sects?

Practical and Ritual Dimension

1. What ritual do you think is the most important in Islam? Why?

Material Dimenson

1. Do you believe that the Mosque is central to Islamic worship?
2. Other than what is laid down in the Law, do you believe that the pilgrimage to Mecca is essential to having a well-rounded faith?

General Questions

1. Do you believe that religious education should be taught in schools, whether they be religious or secular? Why?
2. What, if any, are the concerns about teaching religious education to high school students?
3. What are the positives about having religious education in high school?

the story of Muhammad is taught explicitly in Islamic schools
2. Why do you believe the story of Muhammad is essential to the Islamic faith?
From it we can learn how to act, how to treat people, philosophy
What is good and back?
You can quite all of that and philosophy from it

3. What is the function of this story to students of Islam?
Learn how to live
Philosophy
Love their prophet
Trust about their religion

4. Is belief in God strengthened by the historical story of Muhammad?
Yes because their is some so true points in his history
Make you believe about Islam
And there is things If you act it you will become better in faith

1. What ritual do you think is the most important in Islam? Why?
I think to

I can not translate it so catch what I mean
Speaking with Allah all the time
Prophet tells us to" our keep our tongue wet with remembering and mentioning Allah"
It is stupid translation from me I know but try to guess what I mean: D
To stay all the time speaking with Allah
And spend all the time speaking with Allah
While you are typing on computer or study or swim or waiting the bus
Do not stop speaking with god
Allah says that his good people speak with him or remember or mention him
All the time when they are setting down or standing up or laying
Speak with him ask him to forgive you, thank him or even if you bag was cut ask him to fix it
Speak with him what ever is the subject
Speak with him from your heart

This important why

By that you live for Allah
You will not make anything bad
You will not feel sad if any hurt you because you are speaking with Allah
You will not feel sad if any thing happened, because you will feel this from Allah, and for sure Allah will help me to pass it

Oh sorry I am from Jordan should I answer your questions or is that useless

RE: Teaching Islam, help needed!
Hello muslin girl,

Thank you very much for you answers! They are very helpful, it doesn't matter where you are from in order to answer these questions. I just needed a follower of Islam to give their opinion on these questions. You did very well, your answers will be very useful for my essay.
Thank you again for taking the time to help me!

Annette Smile

RE: Teaching Islam, help needed!
I was at Islamic school for 10 years and for 2 years in Public schools
1. Do you believe that religious education should be taught in schools, whether they be religious or secular? Why?
This happened for Islam in Jordan
But for Christians just in their religious private schools
I think this is good, by that person will know who he is
He can decide which religion he like, and which he disagree with

2. What, if any, are the concerns about teaching religious education to high school students?
This happened in Jordan too
This is good or useless
Look I am religious
But when I study religion at high school, I study it just for marks to enter university
It is wrong to study for marks I know but this is what happened in most cases
When we are small that does not happened but when we are old that is happened
I thing it is good to give students lessons about morals not religion law it is a bit complicated
Give them lessons to learn
But do not ask them to study it and make exams
Make a project this is perfect
I have a wonderful religion teacher at tenth grade
She ask us to make a project
"Asking people do a good thing"
My project was to ask people to pray at midnight
I make cards and write on them how it is good to speak and pray with Allah alone at midnight
Others buy milk and put at it quote that the prophet use to drink milk
I can not remember every thing
Other tries to make all the class mates as sisters
But that was useful and perfect

2. What are the positives about having religious education in high school?
Teaching religion is not useful because they will study for marks
But to make a group in the school for religious students
To make them make religious things
There is something in our schools like parliament
It is good to have Islamic or religious group in schools make project ,celebrate when there is religious occasion, make some so tiny books, like that
It will be good too, if the school make religious activation or allow to religious activation to be done

RE: Teaching Islam, help needed!
1.Do you believe that the Mosque is central to Islamic worship?
Yes, in it you meet all you neighbors, neighbors who you have never met
When I finish my school my marks do not allow to me to study what I like,
I use to like medicine but I do not get it ,so I was so much disappointed but I was lucky I keep going to mosque in it I met two girls who study pharmacy they encourage me so much to study it
Especially they was polite and kind and good so I decide that I will, and I like it bit not much
When I was small I do not use to speak with any in mosque now this is better I can speak with who is beside me and introduce myself
Once I get a friend which gives me her mobile phone number
She was kind unfortunately my mobile was formatted and I lose her forever
I will not meet her again because she does not live beside the mosque; the mosque was just at the way between her house and the sister of her husband house
God helps them who help themselves
Poor people tell imam that they are poor
And imam tell rich ones
Do you know in Ramadan after; lunch a lot of food rest
So rich give it to imam and imam gives it to poor neighbors
This is good
They learn Quran there and religious subject
The father of my friend is Imam, I swear
She covers her face but she know all neighbors because they come to pray at her father mosque 
I like that
When you go to mosque you feel there is a lot like you want Allah not more
You can see people better than you
So you like that and decide to be good as them
2. Other than what is laid down in the Law, do you believe that the pilgrimage to Mecca is essential to having a well-rounded faith?
I do not go there ever
But when you go there you forget every thing except Allah
You stay alone there
You do not think about money there or about sex
Or about any thing stupid
You just think about you are alone now with Allah
Am I really?
What about things which I have done and I will do
Are they really good?
Am I doing them just for people and to be famous?
Or are they really good things I am doing them
What is my motivation for every thing I do?
Is it really Allah?
You should ask Allah to forgive for every thing bad you do in your life
And he will forgive you whatever you have done
But you should promise him not to do that again
There you can really speak with Allah alone
You will not be busy by people or work or study or any other thing
These are not bad things but some you should stop a while and think where is I?
Is every thing good
Am I good?
Or am I just running for food and money and water and sex like animals
Am I happy?
You need that
There is social part but the most important is to stop and learn
Where is your life going for?
You should make every thing clear
You should explain your plans for your self and ask Allah to help you to achieve it
Or first you should put good plans for your self if you have not put before
When you go around Makka and run between two mountains and go up mountain to speak with Allah
At Arafat day people should go up the Arafat and spend all the time speaking with Allah
You can speak with Allah any other place I know
But at that place you will remember I leave my home my work and every thing because Allah ask me to speak at this time (which is specific time) and at this place
So you will focus so much not bit not to be busy by your stupid things
You will not miss your focusing while you are speaking with Allah at that time
You will not forget to speak with Allah you travel to do
And it is impossible to make your self busy with any other thing
Do you know the prophet say if you spend the time since the dawn until the sunrise speaking with Allah speaking with Allah?
Thanking, asking to forgive, and asking for help
(There is religion teacher say even you ask him to make a woman like you
There is no problem just ask this is useful)
However if you spend that time speaking with Allah sine dawn until sunrise you will get as prizes from Allah as you pilgrim because you make your self empty just to speak with Allah?

RE: Teaching Islam, help needed!
1. How important are ‘people’ to the Islamic faith? How important is the social aspect of Islam?
The prophet when he enter Medina say
Feed the food (economic part) (for poor people he mean)
Welcome people the exact translation publish peace
(Social part)
Pray at night when people are sleep (spiritual part)
He ask to help others
But not to obey others

2. In a Study of Religion setting, do you think it is important to educate students with a secular background on Islam in general, or do you think that it is necessary to explain different Islamic sects?
Explain different Islamic sects and from Koran explain it
