The Thong Birds
At a camp site by the Barcoo River just near Blackall, there is a tree in which people have hung their old broken and discarded thongs. While sitting there with me first morning cup of tea, I heard the Thong Birds sing to me, so I wrote this little bit of nonsense.

I hear the Thong Birds in the tree
As they sing their footsore songs to me
They've been replace by brand new shoes
And abandoned here by the old Barcoo
They'd served their masters oh so well
Now in their songs I hear them tell
How their masters walked them o'er this land
Through scorching dust and burnibg sand
And never once did their feet get sore
Now abandoned here, they'll walk no more.

"Come back, Come back," I hear them cry
"Come back once more before you die
And sit with us by the old Barcoo
And remember the days that we walked with you........By S-word.
