Tips for Jewish girls?
I'm Jewish by birth, but was not brought up observant, I'm proud of being Jewish and would like to embrace the culture more in my every day life. Could any Jews out there suggest some ways I could bring a bit more tradition to my family? Thanks! Smile

RE: Tips for Jewish girls?
bringing tradition in can lead to friction -- is there a reason your parents chose not to be traditional? it might have been a conscious decision and any child's move back toward religion may seem a slap in the parents' face, so be careful. The best thing to do is to start learning. Go to a site like http://www.chabad.org and roam around -- read about life cycle events and rituals and see what seems worth a conversation with your family.

The traditions themselfs, the act, has very little flavor without the Intent, There are many Jews who do not know or do not add the spiritual practice, they just blindly go about it which to me makes the practical practice of little or no value.Just because my grandfather put his teeth in a glass every night dosent mean I have to or should, Understanding the purpose of the tradition and making it your own is what counts.

Yefet -- while on one level, I agree, and education informing action is important, I also believe that מתוך שלא לשמה בא לשמה

At http://www.Jewishpathways.com you can learn more about Judaism, and the advantage of this website- is that you can go at your own pace and learn all the basics and what you need to know. Good Luck!

Are your parents spiritual (do they believe in the idea of a creator)? If so, you could start saying mealtime brachot (blessings to HaShem for the food). You can find them on the Web.
