RE: Was the church involved in the horrific crime?
Here's a pertinent quote form Wikipedia:

Quote:After the discovery of the New World in 1492, In December 1511, Antonio de Montesinos, a Dominican friar, openly rebuked the Spanish rulers of Hispaniola for their "cruelty and tyranny" in dealing with the American natives. King Ferdinand enacted the Laws of Burgos and Valladolid in response. However enforcement was lax, and some historians blame the Church for not doing enough to liberate the Indians; others point to the Church as the only voice raised on behalf of indigenous peoples. The issue resulted in a crisis of conscience in 16th-century Spain. The reaction of Catholic writers such as Bartolomé de Las Casas and Francisco de Vitoria led to debate on the nature of human rights and the birth of modern international law.

RE: Was the church involved in the horrific crime?
That's hardly the whole story, though. Yes, Antonio de Montesinos did rebuke the Spanish, but that was one voice. Spain and Portugal conquered the New World with the express permission of the Pope, who without any regard to the Natives divided up the New World between them at an arbitrary point. Natives were read a proclamation in Spanish, a language they had no hope of understanding. The proclamation was simple: Convert or die. And die they did.

Is that the church's fault? Naturally it was truly the fault of the greedy and corrupt who wanted the land for themselves. But the church was a convenient excuse, and Friar Montesinos was a rare exception to their wholesale support of slaughter and invasion.

By the time the conquistadors were finished, somewhere between 90 and 95 percent of the native population of the Americas were dead, by disease or by the sword.

well in all the Americas the numbers totaled about 65+ million over hundreds of years.

makes Hitler and co. look like a bunch of boy scouts.

Q/ who traded the Indians blankets laced with smallpox virus?
...the buddhists, or the muslims or the chinese or the hindu?

...yes it would have been government officials/soldiers/merchants who had judeao/christian roots, making more lebensraum in the promised land...a new Jerusalem.
Using biological warfare ... the smallpox virus.

This was done intentionally...lessons learned from meso-America.

The really big question is ... what was the Vatican's involvement in the WWII Holocaust or holy-cause?

Holy-wood makes up BS to support the mantra that the NAZI acted alone.
The word Christian is NEVER mentioned in the same sentence as NAZI.
Ever notice?
I do.

Afterall Hitler was a Roman Catholic and Germany was a nation full of Christians primarily.

NAZIs were primarily Christians.
Are you glad you asked your question about holocausts?
I am.
