Quote:"There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."

As a wholly forgetable slogan, I would say that takes some beating. I can imagine that most people will just wonder why they had to wear out their eyeballs reading it.

Ummmm...shouldn't this thread read 'Atheists declare their faith!' ?

RE: athiests start there religion
Atheism isn't a religion. At all. Any who "believes" in Atheism, is quite frankly, doing it wrong.

This should prove that point nicely.

"Humanity invented religion initially to overcome the permanent loss of consciousness that occurs at death and it was then taken over by groups who use it to control other groups" - Innuendo, from Def-Logic forums.

RE: athiests start there religion
Atheism itself is not a religion.

A religion can basically be defined as "an organized system of belief that usually involves a belief in the supernatural". Atheism is just that minus the supernatural.

Now, there's Secular Humanism, which is an organized system of belief which caters primarily to atheists and agnostics. It can be considered an atheistic religion, in a sense.

People who say that atheism is a religion are rightly sensing that the difference between the mindset of a militant theist and the mindset of a militant atheist really is not all that great. The dogmas may be different, but nobody could listen first to Christopher Hitchens, and then to one of the American tele evangelists, without noticing the similarity in their tone of voice. It is a tone of voice which betrays the existance of something other than cool rationality at work in the exposition of their respective world views - even thougfh the atheist is likely to make a big thing out of being "rational". When a militant atheist describes himself as "rational" he is telling you more about his self image than about the fact.

Dirkheim said that all life is religion. However, Atheism whilst not accepting the supernatural is an organised system of belief though not for the vast majority of Atheists who never get past the 'God is irrelevant to me' belief, and on that basis never really examine the question. Although I suppose they might be defined as Apathetics rather than Atheists. The organisers of this campaign being the exception. That an Atheistic view point is a faith stance like any other cannot be reasonably denied however, as the very existence of this campaign demonstrates. Smile It might even shake up the Apathetics and make them think. Not a bad result.

RE: athiests start there religion

im amazed to see that christians think something and not care that its wrong. not only do they not care but they will refuse to change their minds about it even when evidence is presented to them in a clear and logical manner.
