Smellycat's posts can sometimes seem disjointed Arizonakat but try not to let that put you off. Read between the lines and you'll see that Smellycat is trying to exhort people to read the Bible and learn of the free gift of salvation through belief and acceptance of Jesus the Christ Who died in our place to free us from ourselves, our self destructive natures, the chains that hold us captive to these things and the schemes of the powers & principalities in high places that keep us blind to the truth concerning Jesus and the judgement to come.

That through Him by His blood we can have true freedom and life not only here and now but forevermore. Smile

In as much as Jesus sacrificed His life to obtain the opportunity for us I'd agree Uthred. That apart however, why not?

RE: free eternal life
[/u]This is certainly a legitimate question. The word "eternal" is the adjective of the word "eternity," which means "forever." We find this theme of eternity and eternal life in the Christian bible. Eternal life is the gift of God that frees an individual from the damnation and punishment of God.

What does all of this mean? First, the individual is a sinner, or someone that lives in sin's grip. Sin is an evil deed committed by an individual. Ultimately, it is an act of defiance against Jesus Christ and Him alone. Jesus Christ is the one through whom all sin is paid for. He is the second person of the Divine Trinity, which consists of three persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. These are not three GODS, but One God existing in three separate persons. Jesus Christ, referred to below as God, is the second person of the Divine Trinity.

By nature, the human being is a person who lives in defiance against God
and his being. In the Holy Bible, Genesis 3 is the evidence that the human is a sinner. Because of Adam's sin and his disobedience and ultimate defiance against God, the human race is a race of sinners who live in complete rebellion against a Holy God. The individual could not escape eternal judgment on their own, because they are sinners who live in a rebellion against God. They are subject to eternal punishment and torment in Hell because they rebelled against God.

This is the reason that Jesus Christ, the second person of the Divine Trinity, came into the picture. See, He came as a man and was born of the virgin Mary. He had to pay the atonement for sin on the cross. Jesus Christ became the sacrifice for the sins of the world by means of his blood on the cross. He was crucified, and beaten, and tormented. He was then buried into a tomb. Three days later, God raised Him from the dead. Forty days later, He ascended into Heaven and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father.

Why did He come? If we are all sinners, why is it that He came to do everything He did? It is what is called GRACE, friend. GRACE is the act of God giving the human being what they do not deserve. It is a free gift. God, out of His mercy and grace, sent Jesus Christ to die a death that no one but himself could handle.

Now, what does this have to do with free eternal life? We have a choice. We can accept or reject eternal life. You can have peace with God and a home in Heaven where you and I will worship Him for eternity, or you can suffer the damnation and eternal punishment for not accepting the gift of eternal life.

I sure hope you do. It's your choice.

Eternal life is not just trusting Christ to save you. It is giving Him lordship over your entire life also
.

If God only put us on this earth to live on this earth only, how is it that Heaven could exist?
