Are you saying that I am but a pale imitation of Kevlar--not bulletproof, perhaps, but at least BB-gun-proof? Big Grin

If you have not already done so, check out " Zeitgeist" or "Religulous". Interesting to say the least. (Love the sarcasm, by the way......)

Has any of those gods walked the earth, claimed to be themselves, and proven it in some way?

That surely is the question. To be perfectly honest neither you nor anyone else has the answer. Unless your BELIEF PRIME is the BOOK that purports to give you that information. Do you get it, without BELIEF IN THE BOOK you have no BELIEF. Your BOOK is your false IDOL. It is in fact your FIRST BELIEF beforeGOD

Neither you nor anyone else can prove that the cosmos didn't just pop into existence five minutes ago, with light on its way from stars that didn't exist, with food in our stomachs from meals we never ate, and memories in our heads of history which never happened.

Radical skepticism leads to nowhere. Historians are in the business of determining what probably happened in the past, because no one can prove with certainty what actually happened in the past.

The death of Jesus on a Roman cross is, historians say, one of the best attested events in all of ancient history. We can say that Jesus didn't die on a cross, or that he never even existed at all, but that is to abandon the historical method by which we claim to know anything at all about ancient times. Secular historians are reticent to admit the resurrection, but that stems more from philosophical concerns than from historical method or attribution. After numerous attempts and numerous hypotheses over the past 2000 years, no one has come up with a better explanation for the disciples' belief in the resurrection and the phenomenal growth in the Jesus movement in Jerusalem itself, where the crucifixion occurred, and beyond.

Now this is a hot subject for me. Sylar, do not recommend zeitgeist or religulous to people for the parallels between Christ and other Gods- they do horrible research, and seem determined to have a million "christ-like" Gods when there are really only a few that are seriously debated. That said, the criteria you are asking for, Chris, is not very hard to fulfill. Dionysus is a perfect example of a God born of a mortal woman who walked the earth, and he had his share of wonders attributed to him (as any God will). I remember there was some lake, Kissoura I think, which he was supposed to have been bathed in as a newborn, causing it to take the color and flavor of wine. In ancient times, wonders and magical feats were a dime a dozen, at least from what people wrote.

RE: where has religion gone
What about the sources other than the bible, by non-christians, that talk of Jesus' miraculous works?
