I so very agree. even some of the real smart science kids in my school could use some philosophy for open mindedness and perspective.[/u]

Philosophy is science's sexy cousin.

But the Greek/Roman pantheons existed before Christianity.. neither of them had the idea of Satan.. why are they wrong?

That sounds like a get out of jail free card to me. Sad
Actually they did have a satan equivalent in the Titans and certainly a Hell. These concepts or variants of them seem to be an almost universal within religious systems and thought even where the concept of God is impersonal and good & evil are considered ultimately to be illusions. One has to wonder why?

I don't see why it should be reduced to the status of a get out of jail free card. If anything I would have thought that makes an agnostic world view more justifiable since it answers the atheistic critique of it. Admitedly it does kinda throw an extra wrench from the Deist's side into the Agnostic framework and perhaps takes away any excuse for not investigating the possibility, but hey, ya can't have everything! Wink Good thread! Smile

And yet, what do you view religion as? Faith? If you see an apple, you see an apple. If you don't see it, you see empty space. It is a matter of relativity. One must NOT let their Ego supplant God, that would be BAD.

The agnostic view is a legitimate one, PROVIDED that it has been achieved through study and examination. I've known plenty of "agnostics" who really just say that as an attempt to stop religious conversations. They don't want to think about such things. Such people are, of course, actually atheists - they live their life as if there is no god, they just say that no one knows to avoid attacks by theists.

Note: That in no way includes all agnostics, many of whom have reached their conclusions through consideration and study. But I've noticed a lot of "agnostics" are agnostics because of the convenience.
